Commissioning Service for Josh Cairns

On Sunday 11th September a commissioning service was held for Josh Cairns as he joined the church as our pastoral assistant for youth and family outreach.

During the service, Pastor Curry interviewed Josh and his wife Rachel. Josh explained how he was brought up in a Christian home in the Portadown area and was saved at the age of 11. He later studied theology at Queen’s University in Belfast before undertaking the Cornhill training course in London. While studying with Cornhill, he was placed in a church near Cambridge where he went on to serve as a youth worker for six years. Josh outlined his excitement to get involved with the church family at Ballymena Baptist and his particular hope to get to know the young people, parents and volunteers and help the young people grow in their knowledge of and love for God.

David McCaughey, one of the church elders, prayed for Josh and Rachel. Pastor Curry then preached from 2nd Timothy 2:8-13 and left Josh with three reminders:

  1. Remember Christ’s person: He is risen and reigning
  2. Remember Christ’s purposes will not be thwarted
  3. Remember Christ’s principle: If we die with Him, we will be raised with Him; if we endure, we will reign with Him

Following the service there was a time of fellowship over supper, allowing the congregation an opportunity to welcome Josh and Rachel in a more relaxed setting.

Please pray for Josh and Rachel as they begin their time among us.
