Our Table Quiz and Meal has now become a much anticipated annual event! It started about 7 or 8 years ago when it was used as a fund raising event for the young people’s summer teams and has gone from strength to strength. We have held them in the Sixth Form Centre at Ballymena Academy, the Des Allen Suite at the Showgrounds, and more recently in our own facilities on Mount Street. Some teams come back for revenge each year but it also provides a good opportunity for new folk to mix and get to know others.
We are very honoured to have our own resident Chef Caskey who along with his able assistant June is able to show the willing team of helpers how to correctly prep fruit and veg! The meal produced is second to none that you could get in Ballymena for the same price and if truth be known (don’t tell the Quiz Master) most people just come along for the feed!
The 10 rounds of the Quiz allow everyone to shine in some field – whether it be History & Geography or TV Theme tunes and Famous Faces. Of course, there’s always a bit of controversy when the Quiz Master gets challenged about an answer or two. This year was no exception – will we ever forget when prior to Margaret Thatcher’s funeral were the bells of Big Ben last silenced?? – I’ll leave you to work that one out!
